My Story

I decided I wanted to be a Pediatrician on the day that I was born. (OK, that’s a slight exaggeration.) I have been professionally caring for children for over 20 years; and I’ve been nurturing, respecting and loving kids my whole life. I am drawn to helping children with challenging behaviors, addressing difficult family circumstances, and treating mental health differences.

Throughout the pandemic, as I became aware of more and more families and children in crisis, I began to crave something new professionally. I wanted to create a space especially for parents that was aimed at preventing pediatric mental health problems and family conflict.

With this new perspective and a whole lot of love and hard work, HeartWise Parenting was created at the beginning of 2022. I couldn’t feel more excited or passionate about this mission to bring healing to the people that are the source of peace and stability for children: parents.

The teen mental health crisis is urgent, and meaningful change requires a collective effort. That change, I believe, starts at home — which means parents need more support than ever before. This work is simply too hard to navigate alone, and it can't be outsourced to social media, peer circles, or self-help books. Parents need a trusted partner: someone with specialized training and a fresh perspective who can walk alongside them through one of the most challenging seasons of raising a child. This conviction is also what drew me to volunteer with the Ryan Bartel Foundation in Loudoun County. I was honored to join their Mental Health Advisory Council, with the goal of bridging the professional pediatric community and the foundation — so that more families can access their vital work in teen suicide prevention.

  • wife, daughter, sister, & friend

  • mom, step-mom, co-parent, ex-single parent

  • pediatrician, mental health provider

  • invisble chronic illness patient

  • special needs parent, neurodivergent-affirming mom

  • educational and special needs advocate and advisor

  • permanent student

  • homeschool teacher, co-op participant

  • devoted daughter of aging parents

  • super healthy food home chef

  • yoga student

  • avid reader

  • trained listener

My perspective on parenting, education, behavior concerns, mental health and special needs parenting comes from more than my medical education, extra training and certifications. From genuine empathy comes my desire to help and my ability to really hear you.

Being a parent is beautifully, hilariously, deeply challenging.

I get it.
